LSS 11th Birthday @ Yellow Arch
As is now becoming tradition, every February Liquid Steel Sound marks another year of soundsystem parties at the legendary Yellow Arch Studios in Neepsend. As always, we’ve invited some of the very best artists in the scene to help us celebrate in style and this year, we have something rather special…
DJ CHAMPION
It has been a long, long time coming but we are delighted to finally welcome one of the most exciting and consistently brilliant producers in the scene. Few artists have demonstrated the same level of excellence for so long and it is no wonder that his beats have been released by the likes of Hyperdub, Roska’s Kicks and Snares and grime imprint Butterz. One of the hypest and most technically gifted DJs in the game, we can’t think of an artist that could better represent Liquid Steel Sound as we enter our 12th year. As the name suggests, DJ Champion is at the very top of the tree, recently releasing his much anticipated ‘Snapshot’ LP featuring vocals from Dread MC and fellow LSS guest Slick Don as well as collaborations with Flava D, Royal T & Four Tet. Don’t miss the chance to hear the man himself drop the anthemic ‘Lighter VIP’ on the Yellow Arch dancefloor.
SLICK DON
Only a select few rappers from outside the capital manage to hold their own against the East London heavyweights. Slick Don is an artist with the necessary style and swagger to do just that. Immortalised in Sheffield for his Bassline classic ‘Bum Brownin’, his spiky Brum accent has enabled him to stand apart from his southern contemporaries. He proudly represents his home city of Birmingham, especially on 2016’s superb ‘Brap’, produced by Sheffield and LSS favourite Walter Ego. Like fellow midlanders Devilman and Lady Leshurr, Slick Don stands alone with his own identity and energy to create a fresh take on the genre.
KILLJOY
One of the forerunners of the burgeoning UK Bass scene alongside Deadbeat UK and Dr. Cryptic, Killjoy has releases on Tumble Audio, RDWRK and Champion’s Formula Records. Regularly topping the download charts, his sound is heavy but with a dark and funky edge to smash the dancefloor. With the promise of a premier vocalist to compliment his selections, this will be a Killjoy set you won’t want to miss.
HANK LIMIT
The daftest, funniest and one of the friendliest DJs in the scene, we’re delighted to have Tumble Audio label boss Hank Limit join us for our birthday bash. Guaranteed to provide a bucketload of absolute bangers fresh out the Tumble stable, there really is no limit to how far this man will take it with his ravenous appetite for bassline and grime madness. It’s going to be a lot.
